For those of you who have been following the instagram (@nickandbethdrinkbeer), you might have noticed our super scientific beer and brewery review and rating system.
The system is split into two parts: 1.) the beer 2.) the brewery tasting room
There are subsections to each part, but ultimately we give the beer a final rating somewhere between 1 and 5 hops. 1 hop being a “yikes” beer and 5 hops being the best beer we’ve ever had.
Our rating and review system came out of a goal to go to as many breweries in Wisconsin as possible this year. I will go into more detail about our brewery map in another post.
To help all of you understand the system and our thought process, here it is broken down:
Part 1: The Beer
Brewery:
Beer Name:
Style:
Flavor Characteristics: **This is where we get very scientific. Super refined. Super descriptive. Basically sommeliers.**
Drinkability: **In a nutshell, this one is rating how well the beer goes down and if we’d have another. Things that influence this are flavor, ABV, price, etc.**
5 Hop Rating: **This is final overall rating. 1 hop = bad. 5 hops = the best ever.**
Part 2: The Tasting Room
Atmosphere: **This is the tasting environment. Things considered are location, decor, seating, lighting, cleanliness, uniqueness, space, etc.**
Service: **This rates the overall service by the tasting room staff. Things considered are attentiveness, friendliness, knowledge, etc.**
Vibes: **This rates the overall feeling of the tasting room. This is similar to atmosphere but includes more subjective feelings. Things that influence this category are music, the crowd, decor, entertainment, the space, etc.**
Post-Up Worthy: **This one rates whether or not we would “post-up” and have a few.**
5 Hop Rating: **This is the overall tasting room rating with the subcategories taken into consideration. 1 hop = bad. 5 hops = best tasting room ever.**
